Two sites I ran into recently, for browsing art.

Surfboard
Back in 2018, I made a surfboard from primarily recycled materials. Cedar blinds I picked up the side of the road, as well as some plywood, fibreglass, and epoxy.
I made some mistakes, a couple fatal. The fibreglass immediately started delaminating. I also made it too narrow, and for a beginner like me that made it impossible to stand up.
I would like to try again, but I didn’t really keep notes about the size. However, I do have a bunch of photos, so should be able to estimate from that, and get it pretty close.

Things Become Other Things
I’m currently reading Craig Mod’s “Things Become Other Things”. I bought it a while back, but only started reading it after listening to him on a podcast.
I will be listening to this Youtube video next time I go for a walk.
One quote that stood out in his book, was an elderly Japanese man, welding frogs for fun. He gave a piece to Craig, who offerred to pay. The man laughed.
“I’m as rich as I’ll ever need to be”.

Art Grid
I’ve been a fan of art for a long time. I am a musician, so in some sense an artist, but for me there is a wide distinction between visual art and music.
I had the idea of making an iPad app with some tools to aid in making art. An Augmented Reality tool, an overlay for tracing, and a grid.
I find the grid the most useful, and satisfying.
In some sense, it feels like using a grid, or any kind of tool is cheating. This morning I ran into an example of an artist, Hans Thoma, using a grid in 1897. If it’s ok for Hams Thoma, it’s OK for me.

Solar
We got solar panels a couple of years ago, and didn’t really monitor it too closely. Just let it exist.
We recently got a battery also, 20kWh.
Initially the configuration was incorrect, limiting the charge rate to 150A, but I did some research and found out it should be 200.
The config change happened today. We get free electricity from 11am-2pm, and so can charge the battery in that time.
This was an overcast day, in the middle of winter.

Ultimate Guitar Cheatsheet V2
I found a post about this PDF, but the original links were dead. I found a copy on a site loaded with advertising, so thought I’d host it here instead.
It’s too small on A4 for my aging eyes, so I split it into 2 pages (you can tape them together), and then also into 5 pages.

VaultBox
I migrated from Notion to Obsidian, for the sweet, sweet, open standards feeling.
For backup, it syncs (2-way) to GitHub. I didn’t want to set it up to also sync with my phone, and didn’t necessarily want the notes on my phone, but I did want to capture ideas while I was out and about.
So, I created an Android app that would do that, and only that. It takes text, and sends it directly to your GitHub repository. If you’re offline, it will queue them on your device, and send them later.
I’m in the process of publishing it, and need some testers.
